The last year has seen an unprecedented number of severe weather and natural events that plunged millions of Americans into darkness—hurricanes, blizzards, “bomb cyclones,” wildfires. Following—and often during—each of these events, caravans of electrical linemen headed into the devastated areas to restore the systems that power the lighting, heating and cooling, water, communications and computing, manufacturing and all the other systems and devices that make our modern world work.

As the president of the National Electrical Contractors Association, I would like to say thank you to the thousands of highly trained, skilled, and dedicated linemen employed by NECA’s member line contractors.

While I already have a great deal of respect for your role in our industry, my admiration for what you do continues to grow. You are always on the front line as first responders during emergency work to get the power back on. We can’t thank you enough for your dedication to working safely and always striving to do your best work—no matter what Mother Nature throws your way.

And as valuable as your storm work is, let us not take for granted the work you do every day, building and maintaining the electrical power grid. It is grueling work even in the best of weather conditions. It is exacting work. The training and knowledge needed to properly perform it is often underappreciated by the public, but we at NECA know what it takes. Our nation depends on dependable electricity, and you bring that to us.

It is my honor to be a part of your team in our pursuit to empower lives. Your hard work is appreciated. Your commitment to working safely—every minute, every day—leads the industry. Keep up the good work, and never quit finding ways to inspire those around you. Thank you for the difference you make in our communities throughout this great nation.

Sincerely,
